The third instalment of the Beach House Pictures produced series, narrated by David Attenborough, aired this week on Channel NewsAsia.
Wild City Islands is an hour-long wildlife programme which tells stories about the wildlife inhabiting the islands off the coast of Singapore. Being one of the most densely populated cities in the world, it is sometimes hard to imagine much wildlife is given the space to live, but the programme uncovers some hidden gems both above and below the water. It is the third instalment of the Wild City strand of programmes, produced by Singapore-based Beach House Pictures, Asia’s largest independent production company.
I was one of the underwater DoP’s who filmed for the programme, and it represents the first time my underwater footage has been narrated by Sir David Attenborough, so a long-term dream come true. It features my work with a tiger-tailed seahorse, some mating blenny mimics, a hunting cuttlefish, a goby and shrimp pair and the life attracted to a fish farm, amongst others.

There is a behind-the-scenes clip, which features myself and my colleague Victor Tang talking about the problems which arise when trying to film rare and elusive marine life in bad visibility and passing monsoons!
I worked with a great support crew for this job, so a special thanks to the team I worked with: Chiara Bellati (Series Producer), Jane Adcroft (Producer), Robert Tan (safety diver), Victor Tang (Fellow DoP/safety diver), Gareth Lince (Dive Supervisor), Gary Savins (Dive Contractor), Gemma Thomas and Jocelyn Hoon (safety divers), Claire Clements and Adele Bennett (Fellow DoPs), Ahmad Rashid (Standby diver/researcher), Shalini Selliah (Production Manager) plus everyone else involved in the production!
